An extra constitutional watchdog as it is being conceived will, I fear, evolve into a destructive power broker outfit. And crazy guys like Ramdev and Co will ride this particular donkey with impunity without any checks and balances. Parliamentary supremacy is conceptually the bedrock for a system that speaks for the people, no matter how ineffectively in practice. We are hardwired to steal, lie and cheat and institutional measures like the Right to Information Act are really the only way forward.Change for the better is always going to be frustratingly slow particularly when people have historical baggage to shed and a generation of corrupt individuals to outlive.
