Graffiti Wall : Spiritual placebos

3 comments:

  1. Placebo: A harmless pill, medicine, or procedure prescribed more for the psychological benefit to the patient than for any physiological effect.
Spiritual: Broadly defined as that which is set apart from the ordinary and worthy of veneration

    Music? Football??

  2. This definition of spiritual is a bit skewed towards religion, which is often mistaken as synonimous. That " set apart from the ordinary " catches it well -- in the sense that spiritual space compensates for what is not available but is deeply yearned for in this real world : it provides credible falsehoods -- like mirages -- of justice, unity, purpose, closure, and suchlike. So yes, sure, music, football; all arts, in fact. There is in Shakespeare , somewhere, a king saying : "...( for god`s sake ) do something! If not by a science, then by some art ".

  3. Well if football, music are placebo's then more so is cricket. However, then everything in life that is beyond the basic requirements and dealing with that becomes a placebo.
Religion is in a sense a different kind of placebo then the rest. It denies the existence of placebos and the worth of other engagements.
