  1. These programs only benefit the politicians and the bureaucrats who will siphon most of the funds!! Do you really care about the poor and the needy? If they do, then there would not be so much poverty even after 60 years of independence and the growth we have had in the last few decades!

  3. Politicians and corporates only run the world that has been set up. It has been moving inexorably in that direction. How does a State decide what welfare to take up? Who decides it and for what purposes is never black and white for me now. The reasons why there is poverty and also not clear to me now. I only know I am to blame as well but do not know how to break out of this trap. Do I really care too? I dunno. It does not fit in with all other things that I care for

  4. Well Hardy, I know you care, you gave up your career to serve others in need!!! Whether it was worth it or not is another issue!

If the state truly represented the people it was supposed to represent, then it would be easy to determine the issues to care about. The state is only responsible for setting up infrastructure to "fish", and provide the opportunities and training for its citizenry to do so. The rest is upto us!!

Does the state truly reflect its citizens? Or is it really true that the "Government reflects the consciousness of the state"!!

  6. Garibi nahin mitti because it serves the political party to keep the issue alive. How else can they milk that slogan as they have done for the last 6 decades since the first Five year Plan was formulated!

  8. ...and Ajai Singh, we should also remember politicians`/babus` corruption while corporates are given mega doles from the public exchequer -- like in 2G, Mining , Arms purchases, etc, not only when pro-poor schemes are being talked about. No?

  9. In short, the rich dont get off the back of the poor, as Tolstoy would say! And that is what makes them rich. Aint it?
